Waxing…

Our bodies are covered with hair that grows in different cycles.  Some may be dark and course, while others may be so fine that you can not see them visibly.  Many researchers say that there can be as many as 2500 hair follicles per square inch but less then 100 hairs will be showing at any given time.

There are many ways of removing the hair from various parts of the body.  Shaving the hair is a short-term solution, but only brings the hair back thicker and more course. Waxing is a temporary method of hair removal which removes the hair at the root. Waxing can last up to three to eight weeks depending on your hair growth and cycles.

Your First Wax…

Almost any area of the body can be waxed, but you must have at least 3-4 weeks worth of hair growth for your first wax. A warm wax will be spread on the area to be waxed and a cloth is pressed on top and then ripped off with a quick movement against the direction of hair growth.  This removes the wax, the hair and any dead skin cells leaving the area smooth. Your first wax may only last three weeks and you may notice your hair growing even sooner then that.  This is because your hair grows in cycles, but with each wax you will notice your hair will grow in much finer and slower allowing more time in between waxes.

Does it hurt?  Some areas are more sensitive then others and there maybe some slight discomfort, but with an experienced aesthetician the discomfort will be minimal.  Don’t be shy, if you find it too uncomfortable, or have any questions, please stop the aesthetician and let them know.  We want you to be comfortable and happy with any service you receive.

After Your Wax…

Please do not do any of the following for at least 24 hours after your wax:

Steam, Sauna, Jacuzzi or swim

Work out inside or outside

Tan inside or outside

Wear tight jeans or pants

Doing any of these things could cause irritation or break outs.

Please do the following after your wax:

Loofa the waxed area daily to prevent ingrown hairs and to slough-off dead skin.

Moisturize the waxed area daily to keep skin smooth and to allow hairs to come thru the skin more easily.

If any irritation occurs on the treated area, apply calamine lotion, neosporine ® or cortisone cream.  If ingrown hairs occur then apply a hot compress for 10 to 20 minutes and then apply calamine lotion.

FAQ…

Can I use a numbing cream before I wax?

We do not recommend this.  They can interfere with the application of the wax and there could be a reaction to them.  The best way to minimize any discomfort is to take an ibuprofen before you wax and one after your wax.  If you are feeling a great deal of discomfort afterward icing the area can help.  You should only need to do this for your first couple of times.  With each wax there is less hair to be removed causing less discomfort.

How long will the results of a brazilian wax last?

There is really no definite answer to this one.  It depends on your hair growth cycles and each person’s hair grows at a different rate.  With each wax however, your hair will grow in much finer and slower.

Can I get a brazilian or bikini wax if I am on my period?

Yes you can, but know you will be more sensitive and we ask that you wear a clean tampon.

Can I get waxed if I am pregnant?

Yes you can, but please check with your doctor.  Also, just like being on your period, being pregnant can leave you more sensitive.

What’s the difference between a bikini and a brazilian wax?

The bikini wax is just the basic line of a bikini bathing suit, everything along the sides and top of the area.  A brazilian wax is everything from the top to the bottom including the anus area.  There is something in between the two often referred to as the modified brazilian or playboy wax.  This is almost everything, but there is a small strip that is left at the top.  The anus area is included in the modified brazilian.  Don’t be shy, the best way to get exactly what you want to talk it over with your aesthetician.  They can help you decide what is best for you.

What kind of wax do you use?

We use a soft, warm organic wax for the majority of our services and a soft warm amber wax for some of the more sensitive areas.

When can’t I wax?

If you have used a chemical peel or Alpha Hydroxy acid product in the area being waxed within the last 5 days prior to waxing

If you have used any type of Retin-A medications with in the last 5 days prior to waxing

If you have used Accutane with in the last year prior to getting waxed

If you have a sun burn or laser burn in the area to be waxed
