Electrolysis is a permanent solution to hair removal.  A fine needle is inserted into a hair follicle, while at the same time, an electric current is activated.  This electric current destroys the papilla (hair root).  In this process, the blood vessels which feed the hair are destroyed and regrowth of the treated hair is prevented. 

There are many factors to whether electrolysis is painful or not. The feeling is often described as a slight heat or tingling. There are different settings and modalities used that can change the sensation and everyone’s tolerance is different.  If the sensation is too much for you to handle make sure you tell the electrologist.

Almost any area of the body can be treated by electrolysis.  Keep in mind you are removing each hair individually so larger areas will take repeated visits over a long period of time to complete.  The length of each session depends on the area being done and the sensitivity of the client.  For women the most common areas done are the eyebrows, lip, chin, underarm and bikini area. For men the most common areas are the eyebrows and neck.  Most of these areas can be hair free with repeated visits over 12-24 months.
